Following the successful launch of the first Singapore International Translation Symposium (SITS) in 2013, the second edition of SITS once again brought together local and foreign speakers and participants from academia, industry and the arts to discuss topical issues related to language translation.
This was one of the most invigorating and enriching events for ACTC Translation Centre, as we caught a glimpse of some of the world’s most renowned translators, including Professor Harry Aveling, Lakshmi Holmstrom, Henery Liu and Andrea Lingenfelter, converged at the Arts House for the Second Singapore International Translation Symposium to explore the idea of “Theory + Practice”.
The theme for SITS 2014 was “Theory + Practice”, where translators, writers, practitioners and academics have delved into issues relating to the two tracks of theory and practice through a series of thought-provoking lectures and panel discussions. "Theory + Practice" is like a double-edged sword where either part is equally important. However, in many cases, it seems that the translators prefer to focused entirely on one part the neglect the other. In view of this, SITS brought together different stakeholders in the translation scene to share knowledge and experience.
“Translation is not about the output, but the process.”
